Charitable Assistance
In 2005, the Society celebrated its centenary year, a milestone marked by the introduction of a new charity, The Benenden Charitable Trust.

The Trust exists to help members of Benenden Healthcare, who are in financial difficulty due to sickness, disability, infirmity or any other medical condition that the Society, through its core services is unable to help with.

If the Society is unable to help, The Charitable Trust may be able to.

Who is eligible for help from the Trust?

The Charitable Trust will consider all claims from Benenden members, unable to receive treatment through the Society’s core services. The Trust can, if the Trustees see fit, offer help to non-members.
“Mr D suffers with various health conditions which greatly inhibit his mobility.  He was not able to use an ordinary bath or toilet and required specialist adaptations. In order to help Mr D remain independent, the Trust agreed to contribute towards the cost of the bathroom modifications.”
“Mrs P’s young daughter suffers with cerebral palsy which affects the control she has in her arm and leg muscles. Her physiotherapist recommended a specialist trike, which would not only enable her to play with her friends but would also have large therapeutic benefits for her condition.  Through fundraising, Mrs P was able to raise a third of the cost and the Trust was pleased to contribute the rest.”

What kind of help can the trust provide?

The Charity intends to use its funds to contribute towards the cost of treatment or services for people who are in financial difficulty due to healthcare problems. This could be an operation, respite care or installation of specialist equipment.

All correspondence should be sent to the Trust Coordinator who will forward claims to the Board of Trustees. Cases are handled confidentially and the Trustees aim to make a final decision within 10 working days.
